SNOWBOARDING IN
TURKEY
A more modern version of skiing. Greater freedom of
movements. First national competition took place in 1982.
Had to wait till 1998 to be accepted into the Olympic Games.
It was first designed by Sherman Popen for his daughter in
1965. Greater energy is used compared to skiing. Wider,
longer and more protective, baggy clothes are worn. Special
boots are needed for the board. You either fall on your face
or backwards. You lean towards the side you want to
navigate. Price ranges between 500-1000 TL (= US$150 to
US$1500) Wrists are crucial, therefore wrist injuries are
common.
SKIING vs SNOWBOARDING
One ski on each foot or two feet on one ski? It is not that
easy to decide. It depends on how you look at it, plus your
personality…
Presumption that just one discipline is applied to winter
sports is erroneous. Do not think that just putting
something on your feet means winter sport. Skiing has many
disciplines which are divided into many branches. For now,
let us look at the general picture and find out about skiing
versus snowboarding. The simplest difference is, you need a
pair of skis for skiing, whereas snowboarding involves a
single wide board. This detail is enough to give you an idea
of the major difference between the two sports. Below are
the most important differences between the two sports which
we hope will help you have a sound idea.
COMMENTS OF SNOWBOARDERS REGARDING SKIERS
They just keep on standing on their skis.
They zigzag to go down-hill. Why can’t they ski in a
straight line?
Why on earth does a person choose such a tight jacket?
Snowboarding is better that skiing. That's
Final !
COMMENTS OF SKIERS FOR SNOWBOARDERS
They always fall on their butts. Snowboarding is easier to
master than skiing, suitable for adolescents. They create a
commotion on the snow. Finally, skiing is far better.
